moved into our house
to claim their right to the good life!

Where did they come from?
They were lucky enough to end up with a local rescue group:
United Hope for Animals (www.hope4animals.org).

Where were they before they were rescued?
They were found in a plastic trash bag in a dump
in Tijuana, Mexico.

What do they do these days?
Sleep, play, eat, walk…repeat…

Typical puppy stuff…

They need to enjoy their lives as puppies
before they’re confronted with
the more serious duties of adult dogs; you know, like:

Sleep, play, eat, walk…repeat…

……..We have arrived!……..

P.S.: They will be participants at the next Puppy Bowl!

San Diego, August 17, 2010: Our conure friends had their first medical checkup. The more than 1 hour long drive to Dr. Coward’s animal and bird clinic in Mission Viejo was a little boring for the birds. But, we learned a lot about bird health and got a confirmation from a real expert that our birds were not only happy, but healthy, too! This video shows them on one of their favorite human perches just before the exam. The outcome: Both received an A++ on their general health — Yet another example of what love, good food & water, regular activity, and companionship can do for you and your pet!

P.S.: Though I never thought that we’d share our lives with pet birds, we love it. But, like any committed guardianship, the role of ‘bird parent’ certainly isn’t for anyone who can’t spare the time and attention.

Wee Companions Small Animal Adoption is the greatest small animal rescue group in South California. The best way to introduce them is probably to summarize the information they give on their website www.weecompanions.com.

Wee Companions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to the rescue and care of guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice, chinchillas and other small exotics from shelters, places of abandonment, and from persons relinquishing their pets.

This organization’s top priority is finding permanent homes for unwanted animals. Wee Companions is an 100% volunteer organization and all monies raised are invested into the care of the animals.

Whenever possible, this organization offers a safe house to these animals, irrespective of age, temperament, or health status. All animals receive veterinary care and socialization in the hopes that they will be placed in a “forever” home. Animals given Sanctuary Status will be placed in Wee Companion’s Foster Care Network to live out their lives in comfort and with love. This organization also focuses on educating foster parents, school children and others on the care, feeding and prevention of unwanted litters of these animals.

We have adopted several of Wee Companions’ rescue rats and they turned out to be among the best socialized and dearest rat friends we have been able to take up into our family. The memory of two of these adopted friends (Magnolia and Olive), is also preserved in some of the photos of our website www.onestaorganics.com.

Because Wee Companions is not a public shelter, appointments are required for individual adoptions. You can contact Wee Companions via the email link on their website www.weecompanions.com. On their site, you can also check out their adoptable animals.
